Vincent Asamoah

Country Leader, Ghana

“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” —Romans 14:8 This scripture became profoundly meaningful to Vincent Asamoah following his near-death car accident on July 22, 2023.

Though Vincent has no formal sports background beyond recreational football, God called him to sports ministry. In August 2005, he resigned as National Youth Pastor of the Ghana Baptist Convention to pursue a Master of Divinity in youth ministry at George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University. When his wife Doreen and their three children joined him in the US, their participation in Upward Sports inspired his commitment to this calling. After graduating, Vincent chose to return to Ghana in 2009 rather than establish a church in Houston, faithfully pursuing God’s vision despite others’ skepticism.

Today, through basketball and volleyball, Vincent reaches hundreds of athletes across Ghana with the Gospel, making disciples who make disciples. His vision is transforming courts into disciple-making centers. He invites others to partner with him through prayer, financial support, material donations, and skills development programs.

Initially, many people didn’t take my vision for sports ministry seriously, as they saw no connection between pastoral ministry and sports. Nevertheless, armed with deep conviction that this was God’s calling for my life, I remained undeterred by others’ skepticism. To God’s praise and glory, many of those naysayers have since revised their views.

Today, through basketball and volleyball, we’re reaching hundreds of athletes in schools and communities across Ghana with the Good News of Jesus Christ, making disciples who make disciples. My heartfelt desire is to transform basketball and volleyball courts into disciple-making centers. I humbly invite you to join hands and hearts with me and my team through prayer, financial and material support, visits for skills development programs, and more.
