Anderson Couto
Country Leader, Brazil
Anderson was born and raised in the coastal city of Guarapari, Espírito Santo, Brazil. He began his sports career as a youth on his local soccer team. While he was emerging as a professional athlete, he saw both his career and his life nearly destroyed by addiction. His life was at a crossroad when one of his coaches introduced him to the ultimate coach, Jesus Christ. Anderson heard and responded to the Gospel and his life and future were transformed.
In pursuit of God’s calling, he graduated with a degree in theology with a focus on urban missions. As a youth pastor he went on his first international mission trip and experienced how God can work through a soccer camp. God then prompted Anderson to further his education by enrolling in another college focused on sports. This act of obedience opened new opportunities for him to get involved in international sports. From surfing to soccer, from CrossFit to running, Anderson engaged in the world of sports and embraced diverse cultures that have shaped his mission and gave meaning to his purpose in serving Christ.
Today, Anderson serves with his family, Raquel and Mateus. They live in Rio de Janeiro and dedicate themselves fully to the calling of making disciples in and through sports.
“But none of these things moves me, nor does it count my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” Acts 20:24
